Aristo Sham

Born in 1996, Aristo Sham is now an eighth grader of Diocesan Boys’ School in Hong Kong. He started playing piano when he was three years old. He joined the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as junior piano student in 2002 and he is now under the tutelage of Professor Eleanor Wong.

Aristo has won a number of international and national prizes: the First Prize of Gina Bachauer International Junior Piano Competition in 2008; First Prize of the 4th China National Junior Piano Competition; the First Prize of Category A and the Barenreiter Urtext Special Prize of the 10th Ettlingen International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Germany in 2006; the Grand Champion of the Hong Kong Young Musician of the Year 2006; the First Prize in Group A of the 69th Steinway International Children and Youth Piano Competition in Beijing and the Gold Medal Award of Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in 2008.

Aristo has collaborated with Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra in 2004 and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007. He also joined the Shanghai and Hangzhou concert tour with the Junior Chamber Orchestra of the Academy for Performing Arts as soloist in 2005. He has held recitals in Hong Kong and China. In 2008, he was invited to hold a recital in the series of “Asia on the Edge” in Singapore and in 2009 in the series of “Prodigies and Masters of Tomorrow” of the Miami Piano Festival in U.S.A.

Aristo was presented the Certificate of Commendation by the Hong Kong Government for his outstanding achievements in international arts and cultural activities. The honour of ‘2007 Young Artist Award’ and ‘2008 Hong Kong Outstanding Teens Award’ were bestowed on Aristo.
