Chan Chun, Michael started learning double bass at the age of 11. He gained his first ensembles and Hong Kong Music Festival experience as a student of S.K.H. Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School.
After passing the grade 8 examination of ABRSM with distinction, he entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts as a full-time student, where he studied with Mr Eddie Zong, former double bass principal of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and received his Diploma and Bachelor Degree. Chan was selected to join the Asian Youth Orchestra as principal double bass to tour around Asia, before his first European musical experiences with the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands and Pablo Casals Chamber Festival in France.
Chan started his 2-year Master Degree in the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden, Germany, in 2012 to study with Prof. Benedikt Hübner. In the past 2 years, Chan has given more than 200 public concerts with the Dresdner Philharmonie, Staatstheater Kassel, Dresdner Residenz Konzerte, Magdeburgische Philharmonie, as well as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Macao Orchestra.
Chan Chun is currently a double bass tutor of Sha Tin Government Secondary School, Alliance Primary School and Good Hope Primary School.
